This Friday, January 26, come join us for an evening of fun, food, and more at the Eagles Ballroom in Olympia in support of the Southwest Washington Food Hub. The evening will feature a variety of local foods prepared by local chefs. Look for sausage from our friends at Delmonico's made from Colvin Ranch grass-finished beef.

I'll also be participating in a fireside chat about local food systems and climate change with other farmers and chefs. Plus, with music from the Oly Mountain Boys, it's sure to be a fun event.

The Southwest Washington Food Hub is a farmer-owned cooperative food aggregation and distribution service operating in Pierce, Thurston, Lewis, Grays Harbor, Mason, and Pacific Counties. They make it easy to get seasonal, local produce from local farms with their popular multi-farm box. And they make it easy for producers like us to provide locally-produced food to the community, including school districts in Aberdeen, Olympia, and other local areas.

Get your tickets online, and be sure to find me at the event and say hello.

Riparian Projects at Colvin Ranch

When we have cattle in the meadows, we take steps to protect the creek banks and the water quality. One major project that was done nearly 20 years ago with the Thurston Conservation District was the Riparian Planting Project, which planted 1,900 trees along 5,250 feet of Scatter Creek at the ranch.

Conservation and Cattle

When people think of conservation, they don't often think of cattle. But livestock play an important role in how we preserve and enhance the diverse environments we have at Colvin Ranch.
