Pure Country Farms and the Klingeman family are leaders in raising free-range, non-GMO pigs. Their pigs are all raised in Washington according to the following standards:
Breed
The pigs are a heritage cross-breed of Yorkshire, Berkshire, and Duroc.
Diet
Their diets consist of Non-GMO Project Verified grains, including wheat, barley, triticale, peas, and flax. Most of these grains are raised on the farm. The pigs are not fed corn or soy. Pure Country was the first pig farm in the U.S. to be certified non-GMO by Foodchain ID in 2014.
Animal welfare
The pigs are raised in open hoop and shed structures with natural bedding, and have complete access to the outdoors. Pure Country was the first pig farm in the U.S. to become Food Alliance Certified for their animal welfare practices and responsible management, including areas such as safe and fair working conditions, healthy and humane animal treatment, no use of hormones and antibiotics, GMO-free seed, reduced pesticide use, soil and water conservation, and wildlife habitat conservation.
